This Privacy Policy explains how the Calory application ("Calory", "the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. Calory is an AI nutrition app that estimates the calories and nutrients in your meals from a photo. We built Calory to keep your personal data on your own device wherever possible. There are no user accounts, no advertising, and we do not sell your data.
In short: Your food log, weights and profile stay on your device and sync only to your own private iCloud. When you scan a meal or chat with the AI coach, that specific photo or message is sent securely to a third-party AI provider for real-time analysis and is not kept afterwards. We use no advertising and no cross-app tracking.
Data that stays on your device. The information you enter and generate in the app โ your name or nickname, sex, date of birth, height, weight entries, goals, activity level, logged meals, water intake, streaks and your coach chat history โ is stored locally on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, this data also syncs to your own private iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit so it is available on your other devices. We cannot access the contents of your private iCloud storage.
Data sent for AI analysis. When you take or select a photo of a meal, that image is sent over an encrypted connection to our server and then to a third-party AI provider to identify the foods and estimate nutrition. When you use the AI coach or AI recipe features, the text you send together with limited context (such as your goal and your daily macro totals) is sent the same way. This content is processed to generate a response and is not stored by us after the response is returned.
Data used to run the service. To provide free-tier limits and prevent abuse, the app generates a random, anonymous device identifier that is sent with each request and used to count usage. If you subscribe to Calory Pro, a purchase transaction identifier is sent to our server so it can verify your subscription with Apple. We may also process basic technical information such as your IP address and app version as an ordinary part of handling network requests.
We rely on the necessity of providing the service you request, and your consent (given by choosing to scan a meal or use the AI features), as the legal bases for this processing.
We use a small number of trusted providers to run Calory. They process data only to perform their function for us and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
Calory uses AI to estimate nutrition and to generate coaching and recipes. AI output is an estimate and may be inaccurate. It is provided for general informational purposes only and is not medical, dietary, or health advice. Please review and adjust the results, and consult a qualified professional for any decision that affects your health.
Because our providers operate globally, your information may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because most of your data lives on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly: view and edit your information in the app, or remove it entirely with "Delete all data & reset". For any other request, contact us at the address below and we will respond as required by law.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
Calory is not intended for children under 16 years of age (or a higher age where required by local law). We do not knowingly collect information from children under this age. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data transmitted to and from the app is encrypted in transit. On-device data is protected by your device's own security. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users and the relevant authorities where required by applicable law and within the timeframes it sets.
Calory does not use advertising cookies or cross-app tracking technologies, and does not build advertising profiles about you.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, notified in the app.
By using Calory, you consent to this Privacy Policy and the processing described in it.
